Scala 201
From offices to a residential apartment
Scala Building · Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco

An office building that decided to become a home.
The Scala Building was born as an office tower. When the property changed to residential use, Apartment 201 arrived at AMATE Studio as a blank canvas: a space designed for work, without the layout, the finishes or the soul of a home. Our task was comprehensive: to design, from scratch, an apartment that worked, that felt right, and that had something few units in the building would have.
The terrace was the big bet. We spotted the possibility of expanding the apartment toward the building's garage area and seized it: we designed and built an outdoor terrace that gives the space an entirely different dimension. That same terrace was the reference that, years later, prompted the neighbor in 202 to contact us to build his own.
Everything that could be custom-built, we built to design: the kitchen, the closets, the bathroom vanity, the walls and the window frames. No generic pieces. Every element was conceived for that specific space, its dimensions and its use.
